Vision Éternel Interview for CenZu Zine

Editor’s Note: This interview was published on June 10th 2009 for CenZu magazine.  -Hey there, how has the year begun for you? Have you had a lot of time developing material Vision Éternel? The year has been great so far. Not only for Vision Éternel, but also for a lot of my favorite bands getting back together this year. But its also a year of re-issuing for Vision Éternel. In February the two EPs were released together under the compilation “An Anthology of Past Misfortune” on Frozen Veins Records, and now this summer each EP is getting a re-issue on cassette tape on...

Stagnant Waters

Stagnant Waters is the experimental side of Dreams of the Drowned. Inspired by Dodheismgard, Mr. Bungle, Atomsmasher and such, Camille created the band in 2007, and was later joined by Aymeric (of Pryapisme). The early demos were released as a split with Phlegma on Abridged Pause, and now the band is finishing their debut album due out on Paradigms Recordings in late 2009. Phlegma

Before their was Smohalla…their was Phlegma. Early form of post/blackened screamo, this short lived idea created just what it was intended for. Any word of praise would still be an understatement about this. Collaborating with Stagnant Waters, Phlegma brings you a welcomed split in this scene that needs constant evolution to survive. This is where it started. Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterTumblrRedditPinterestPrintPocketLinkedInTelegramWhatsApp

“Diluvian Temperals” is almost here

Changes are slowly occurring to this website. What we mean by slowly is that most of it is done, as you can see, but about 25% of it has yet to be finished. Our graphic designer Jeremy Roux assures us that it will be done in June though. Additionally, Abridged Pause Recordings’ very first release is coming out that month; “Diluvian Temperals“. Clicking that link will take you to the Releases page so that you can check out more of Abridged Pause Recordings’ upcoming plans. Sveta Istina Vještica

Sveta Istina Vještica is one of the overlooked project of Slo and Camille from Smohalla. Their debut “Witches in the Air” is due to be released on Abridged Pause Recordings on 10″ vinyl in early 2010. Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterTumblrRedditPinterestPrintPocketLinkedInTelegramWhatsApp

Dying Sun

For a band like Dying Sun, the terms sludge and post-metal can only be used in appreciation. Their first EP “5,125” was a teaser to all who heard it. Now be ready for more! This is incredibly enveloping metal. It simply wraps you within and doesn’t even let you breathe until its over. Think you can handle it? Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterTumblrRedditPinterestPrintPocketLinkedInTelegramWhatsApp

Omega Centauri

In a world where black metal has become extremely overdone, and simply unoriginal in any possible phase that may come forth, certain bands manage to stand out and make you wonder, this new phase could actually be good. Omega Centauri is a prime example of what a “special black metal” band can do and be. Something fascinating. After introducing Omega Centauri to the world on the “Diluvian Temperals” compilation in 2009, we are pleased to continue to bring you material by this unforgettable band. 2012 ought to be a good year! Last Minute to Jaffna

Last Minute to Jaffna needs no introduction. They are huge. The music is huge, the releases are huge and their shows are huge. Even going to open for Isis. This is pure heavy post-metal. It's just incredibly overwhelming. This is a typhoon coming through.

Tower

Tower is a straight up post-metal band from France. Everything they do is right in your face and you can’t miss it. After quietly releasing their debut slef-titled ep, the band was quickly approached by Abridged Pause to have one of their new songs on Diluvian Temperals. Big things are about to happen for this band. Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterTumblrRedditPinterestPrintPocketLinkedInTelegramWhatsApp

Semiosis

Post-rock is already in a new level. It has evolved into a more electronic based theme, and Semiosis is one of Western Europes first to do it. And they set the bar high enough for other artists to make it hard to match. After an incredible first album, this band is welcomed in the arms of APR to bring you what has to be heard out loud. With a song featured on our compilation, it is only the beginning of a fruitful relationship between beauty and intelligence. Somnam

Somnam

Somnam’s beauty can only be described audibly. Since 2005, the band has released two demos, and an incredible full-length on Paradigms. The band’s second album is very much anticipated, especially after their song on Diluvian Temperals’ favorable reviews. Pet Slimmers Of The Year

Pet Slimmers of the Year

Pet Slimmers of the Year’s extremely atmospheric sound of metal has been an ear catcher from the moment they released their EP in early 2009 and the band quickly gathered international attention. This trio from England intelligently put out their debut digitally for free, and the three tracks were immensely appreciated. It is with great pleasure that we introduce PSOTY with a brand new song for our compilation. Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterTumblrRedditPinterestPrintPocketLinkedInTelegramWhatsApp

Kailash

Kailash

Kailash is a well known name in the post-black metal community. Their music has been turning heads since their earliest inception as Krom in 2002. After reducing members, they changed name to Kailash in 2006, and their first self-titled album  (which was a compilation of the last two Krom demos) was issued 3 times, and each sold out. Kailash’s fanbase grew rapidly and everyone was impatiently waiting for a second album. Finally in 2009 they unveiled “Past Changing Fast”, by this time the band was down to its core members with the Basili twins (Marco and Andrea). Everyone...

Smohalla

Smohalla

The genre “post-black metal” has often been mislabeled. Smohalla represents one of the few occasions when it can be used appropriately. Incredibly well-composed music with an intelligent progression. Smohalla began in 2006 with their demo and was immediately well-received. Less then a year later, their first EP was the talk of the critics corner and it sold out within half a year. Over the next two years the band released various covers on compilations and tribute albums, while preparing their debut full-length. This seems to be the most promising black metal act to come out of...

Feos

Feos

Now that the term post-black metal has been used enough to be accepted, bands are blooming in the genre. Feos is part of this newcoming scene of intelligent individuals who manage to mix beauty within the style of black metal and post-rock. Something great is happening… Share this:EmailFacebookTwitterTumblrRedditPinterestPrintPocketLinkedInTelegramWhatsApp

Ancestral

Ancestral

Ancestral is an atmospheric black metal from San Diego, California, United States, founded by songwriter Brendan Shaouna. Since its inception in 2007 (after changing name from Ancient Moonlight), Ancestral has been kept busy with releases. Those include the six-song demo “Curse” in January of 2008, an EP of unreleased material in April of 2008, another EP “Avowal” in May of 2008, a split with Njiqahdda and Merankorii in May of 2008 and another split with Wedard in June of 2008. Hard at work since then on a debut full-length album, Ancestral will be contributing an...

Black Sand And Starless Nights

Black Sand and Starless Nights

When Starless came out with “Good Question” in 2005, people couldn’t stop talking about it all around their local town of Metuchen, New Jersey. It really isn’t hard to see why either. The duo Bill Kachersky and Mike Vassallo) would continue to collaborate with producer Patrick from Frozenn Studios, who was partly responsible for their distinct sound. After extending to a full band line-up in 2007, the band went under hiatus, and later, stating they had broken up. One of the tragedies of the year… Abridged Pause is here to bring their music where it belongs! And...

Parabstruse

Parabstruse

For most, Parabstruse is already a household name. Garry Brents has earned the reputation as one of those artists that simply captivates new listeners to come back for more. There is little he has not done; he’s touched upon just about every genre in his career. Parabstruse is his post-rock outfit. After managing to sell out a limited edition pressings of a previously released digital album, Old Sentimental, Parabstruse is out looking for more. Abridged Pause Recordings is going to help do just that; the collaboration begins with an exclusive appearance on the Various Artists...

Welcoming artist: Vision Éternel

This is it: the band Abridged Pause Recordings was waiting for. Vision Éternel. Next year, we will be presenting you with a split 7″ vinyl featuring Vision Éternel and Ethereal Beauty. We can’t wait to let you all hear it! Check out Vision Éternel’s home page Check out Vision Éternel on Myspace Share...

Welcoming artist: Ethereal Beauty

We at Abridged Pause Recordings feel like resting on a cloud when we think of our growing roster of artists, and especially when we listen to Ethereal Beauty. This band will be releasing a split 7″ vinyl with the noted Canadian melogaze band Vision Éternel in mid-2009. This is one of the most promising releases of 2009 and you should make sure that you know Ethereal Beauty ahead of time. Welcoming artist: Black Autumn

Abridged Pause Recordings is proud to announce to everyone that Black Autumn will be working with us on their next release. Black Autumn has very recently released “Rivers of Dead Leaves” and you can still get the limited edition packaging from the band, as well as most of their older releases (and there are many many of them). Black Autumn’s mentality has always been subjective to the entire black metal genre. As one of Western Germany’s most promising band, over ten years of writing and eight releases, this band is reluctant to get buried. Along with a number of bands in this...

Welcoming artist: Dreams of the Drowned

Abridged Pause Recordings would like to welcome and share with you the very first band we will be working with, Dreams of the Drowned. This amazing post-black metal band from France will be reaching your ears with a first full-length release in early 2009. For the moment you can download their 4-song demo for free right here. Dreams of the Drowned: the band which determines the genre of post-metal. Leaving all restrictions behind, this band intellectually approaches blackened hardcore, keeping a level of atmosphere to sooth any misconception. After a self-released online demo, the band...

Welcome to Abridgd Pause Recordings

Hello to all of you interested readers that have wandered into the new website of Abridged Pause Recordings. Abridged Pause Recordings is the new savior of good music. Founded officially in 2008, with a purpose to bring back the vinyl format into the music scene and digipaks to the public eye, the label will be focusing on all types on genres revolving around the “atmospheric” ideals and moods. Pretty soon, we will unleash the first output of the label, Dreams of the Drowned’s debut full-length album. Ethereal Beauty

Ethereal Beauty creates for a musical sphere of landscapes. The soundtrack to a rainy day, as it was meant to be. A field of things to come, for once and forever. As a relatively new band, Ethereal Beauty’s music has an approach fairly undeveloped in most musical scenes. Coming from Calexico, a south Californian town with very little musical taste, something was bound to happen, and it did. Jordan Leal, who had previously and simultaneously fronted Desolation, needed a change of mood. Inspired by the post-rock movement, he opted for a nature oriented atmosphere. After writing only two...

Vision Eternel

Vision Eternel

Vision Éternel is one of those bands that doesn't need to say much for you to understand the emotions in the songs. In fact they don't say a single word. Their instrumental concepts take you to the mood Alexandre Julien was in when he composed the pieces.

Black Autumn

Black Autumn

Black Autumn’s mentality has always been subjective to the entire black metal genre. As one of Western Germany’s most promising band, over ten years of writing and over ten releases, this band is reluctant to be buried. Along with a number of bands in this new-coming generation of post-black metal, the atmosphere and mood setting are the basis of the structure. Black Autumn makes that clear. In fact their influences of black metal are merely recognizable by the tone of the instruments. This music envelopes you in a cocoon of despair and misery while keeping the feeling beautiful and...

Dreams Of The Drowned

Dreams Of The Drowned was a post-black metal/grindcore band of Camille Giraudeau, based in Evreux, Normandie, France. The idea of the project came about in late 2007 and Camille spent the next year recording a four-song demo. The demo was released for free download on the band’s Myspace page on August 27th 2008 and featured a Ved Buens Ende cover. Two days after it was out, it caught the attention of new record label Abridged Pause Recordings and the band was immediately signed for the release of their upcoming debut full-length, “Longue Vie / Imminent Doom“. Camille then...

Throne Of Mortality

Throne of Mortality

To understand how Throne of Mortality formed, one must go back to a year before their foundation. In a high school in Edison, New Jersey, two teenagers would meet by coincidence of one wearing a Mr. Bungle t-shirt. That autumn they would discuss many music related subjects but things were halted when Alexandre Julien went away for a few months. Upon returning in spring of 2005, Howard Change introduced to Alexandre Julien a variety of black and death metal bands. During this time, a metalcore influenced band was in the works with Alexandre Julien (as Virkelig Død) on guitar, Howard Change...

Culture

Editor’s note: This biography of Culture was written entirely by Alexandre Julien, with collaboration from the band members, throughout 2007, for the now defunct Myspace page. Culture began in 1994 with Mark Mitchell on vocals, Rich Thurston on guitar and bass and Josh Williams on drums in Cooper City, Florida. Almost immediately, Mark parted ways with the band, and Rich assumed vocal duties in addition to the string instruments. The duo recorded a four song demo, and sent it to labels to get it released. Soon after Stan Obal joined on bass and John Wylie on second guitar. Shortly...

Bird Of Ill Omen & Dead Mens’ Theory Official Biography

Editor’s note: This biography of Bird Of Ill Omen was originally written by Alexandre Julien, with collaboration from the band members, throughout 2007 for the band’s now -defunct official Myspace page. It has since been re-written and improved upon for Abridged Pause Blog. -Chapter 1 (Summer 1996 – October 1996) In the early summer of 1996, bass guitarist Thomas Rankine, who had previously played in Burning Strong and Stonecast, setup a jam with local Miami, Florida musicians for a new emotional hardcore band. He recruited George Rios (aka “Lil’ Jorge”)...
